April 14, 2016: Microsoft’s Skype in Media introduced Skype TX 4, a new edition of the studio-grade version of Skype for broadcast and media production. Among other advances, Skype TX 4 allows for multi-channel video call management appliances, moving from a hardware requirement of one Skype TX box handling one call, to one box being able to handle multiple calls, for a savings in efficiency and costs. The expanded capability acknowledges the huge growth in participatory television, where both news and entertainment shows in more than 100 countries have used Skype TX to bring remote guests into broadcasts for high-quality, real-time interactions.
