“The IBC is always an opportunity to witness company efforts in expanding their customer base,” Ken Kerschbaumer, editorial director of Sports Video Group (SVG) notes, in the first line of an article where he looks squarely at this issue in a discussion with NewTek’s product marketing manager Will Waters. NewTek’s mainstay democratizing production systems are more noted for making high-quality production values and capabilities affordable to market segments that previously had to settle for less. For higher-end operations, NewTek’s forte was providing unprecedented portability plus the ability to equip more production units with cost-savings versus traditional equipment.
All of that is still in play; what the NewTek IP Series represents is an entirely new top-end to the product line. With a future-proof hybrid IP/SDI workflow, familiar professional switcher interface paradigm, and essentially unlimited scalability built into the modular elements, NewTek IP Series represents a major value to mid- to high-end production in workhorse capacities in facility control rooms. Traditional workflows remain supported and integrated, and new workflows are immediately available to open up productions to a flood of new possibilities.
As an example, Waters notes: “You can add more mix engines, and the control panel can drive multiple mix engines via Ethernet. Each mix engine has a 72×8 internal router, so you are hard pressed to get to a creative limit.”
